Who is beloved of Vishnu-father of Cupid, who shines like molten gold. Whose effulgence is equal to that of a million suns. She is easily accessible to devotees and protects those who are devoted to her. She is adorned with a garland of lotus. She is the paragon of virtue and sports in the heart of Keshava (Krishna).

Varamahalakshmi Vrata is a festival to propitiate the Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity. Varalakshmi is one who grants boons. It is an important pooja performed by married women.

The Hindu festival going by the name ‘Vara MahaLakshmi Vrata’ is celebrated on the Second Friday or the Friday before the day of the full moon – Poornima – in the month of Shravana, which corresponds to the Gregorian months of July–August.

It is believed that worshipping the Goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi – the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Wisdom, Love, Fame, Peace, Contentment, and Strength.

At SVT, ‘Vara Lakshmi Vratam’ is being performed on Friday the 5th August 2022. Simultaneously, Garuda Panchami is also observed on the same day.

The Programme commences at 10.00AM with Abhishekam for Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Andal and Sri Garuda followed by Alankaram and Maha Deeparadhanai.
