Brahmotsavam and Navarathri 2021

BRASHMOTSAVAM 2021

The word “Brahmotsavam” is a combination of two Sanskrit words “Brahma” and “Utsavam”. In one context, it is said that, Lord Brahma first performed this festival and hence Brahmotsavam is referred to as Festival celebrated by Brahma.  In other context, the word Brahma refers to Grand or Huge and hence referred to as Grand Festival.  As per the legend, It is believed that Lord “BRAHMA” will descend to the earth to conduct this festival and hence the festival got the name Brahmotsavam.

We are happy to announce that the Board of Directors have decided to celebrate the annual Brahmotsavam Festival, beginning on October 6th (DwajaArohanam) and concluding on October 16th, 2021 (DwajaAvarohanam). However, in view of the current pandemic lockdown conditions, following the guidelines of NSW Government, we will be celebrating the Utsavam as Priests-only with no permissions to devotees and visitors and also the celebrations will be on a low key during the lock down. The Board also decided that we would not be bringing out the “Vahanas” for the Lord to be taken around, within and outside, the temple. Homam and Abishegam for Utsava Moorthy will be performed daily, during this period.  We will not be able to accommodate Annadhanam offerings  until the decision lifting the lockdown is known.

In the event of appropriate relaxations allowed by the Government lifting the lockdown, during the Brahmotsavam period,  the Utsavamoorthys would be placed on the “Padichattam” and taken for a Pradhakshanam around the pragarams of Perumal shrine only and also, we will be able to permit devotees to visit the temple but strictly observing the rules in place such as mandatory registration via  Service NSW QR Code, checking double dose of COVID vaccination,  limiting the maximum number of devotees based on 4 square meters per person, wearing of face-mask, observing social distancing etc., If the lockdown is lifted midway thru’ Brahmotsavam, there could be opportunities for offering Annadhanam. Those who are interested to offer Annadhanam after the lockdown is lifted, may write to the Secretary at secretary@svtsydney.org. Devotees will not be permitted to bring home-made prasadams for distribution until further notice.
